    Explained

    What is AI citation monitoring?

AI citation monitoring is the practice of measuring your cited-source position repeatedly over time, so you can see which citations you gained, which you lost, and which competing domains displaced you. It compares like with like: the same prompt set, the same engines, run again and diffed against a baseline.

It is narrower than brand monitoring on purpose. This is about sources — which URLs get attributed. If you want to watch mention rate, share of voice and how engines describe your brand over time, that is " style="color:var(--bjv-blue); font-weight:600;">AI search monitoring, and the two are complementary rather than alternatives.

    FAQ

    Questions

How often do AI citations actually change?

More often than brand mentions and less often than search rankings. Because retrieval reads the current web, a new competing page can change a source list within weeks, while the model's underlying view of your brand shifts only across training generations. In practice a quarterly comparison catches most meaningful movement without drowning you in the run-to-run variance that comes from answers being non-deterministic.

Why did I lose an AI citation I used to have?

Usually one of four things: a fresher page on the same question displaced yours, your page aged into looking stale on a time-sensitive topic, something changed how crawlers reach or render it, or the engine changed its retrieval behaviour. The pattern tells you which. A loss on one or two prompts is content competition; a loss across dozens at once points at an access problem on your side or a change on theirs.

What is the difference between citation monitoring and AI search monitoring?

Citation monitoring tracks sources — which URLs get attributed, and which competing domains displace you. AI search monitoring tracks your brand — mention rate, share of voice, and how engines describe you. They move on different timescales and are fixed by different teams, so brands generally want both, with citations reviewed more closely because they respond faster to work.

Can you guarantee more leads or AI recommendations?

We improve your website and business information, then test and refine monthly to strengthen AI visibility and create more opportunities for inbound leads. Results aren’t guaranteed, but each step is guided by measured progress.
